Nick Weedon is a Sheffield native who has been having a considerable impact on the French underground scene. In the past five years he has made nearly 20 records with countless bands (The Jesus Loves Heroin Band, Os Noctambulos, 39th & the Nortons, Nick & Alizon etc.), each of them offering him a new opportunity to refine his Gene Clark and Alex Chilton-inspired sound. 'Communication Problems', is his first record under his own name.
Wheeldon describes the creative process involved in the making of the record as "a collective painting created in the here and now, each tune being recorded as it was written". Paul Trigoulet (Bootchy Temples) taking care of the mix to give a sense of cohesion to the set of songs. The resulting record turns out to be a perfect self portrait of Wheeldon (the cover, made by Marie Meilhan-Bordes, fondly nods to Dylan's neglected work), whose hypersensitivity and affection for his friends comes in spurts at every turn of the songs.
'Communication Problems' and its lo-fi folk songs allows us to enter Wheeldon's inner world. It also underlines that Wheedon is one of the most important French musicians of our times, however English he may be.
