Tommy Cash's third Epic album was a concept album called This American Way of Life, with each song devoted to a different American archetype with a focus on the American working man, from the farmer to the trucker and the mailman. It's a concept uncannily reminiscent of those explored by his brother Johnny on a series of '60s and '70s records, so perhaps it's not a surprise that Tommy gets close to Johnny's territory on "I Got Me a Guitar," which is a dead ringer for the Man in Black -- intentionally so, with verses that crack jokes about Johnny. The album can certainly get corny -- sometimes intentionally so, often not -- but enjoyably so, because Cash has skill as a storyteller and Glenn Sutton's production makes this an enjoyable bit of a period piece.
