This 16-track compilation brings together a brace of singles Brown cut for the Coral label between 1951 and 1954. The big band era may have been dead or at the very least, on the ropes, but Brown's band was in top-flight musical shape, and their work on "Leap Frog," "Back in Your Own Backyard," "Red Sails in the Sunset" and "The Nutcracker Suite" shows them in fine form. Guest vocalists include Teresa Brewer, Herb Jeffries, the Modernaires, and even a recut of "Sentimental Journey" with guest vocalists the Ames Brothers works in this scintillating little collection. The salad days of the big band may have been long gone, but Les Brown soldiered on and produced some music along the way.
