'The Emancipation of Eva Grey', is the last Thea Gilmore record for a while and is released alongside the first, self-titled, album by the newly personified Afterlight. Although their songs share the same subject matter, stylistically they’re worlds apart – 'The Emancipation of Eva Grey' was imagined 100 years ago an acerbic reboot of the 1930s Jazz Age that grew out of a request to contribute to the recent hit film version of Blithe Spirit starring Dan Stevens, Isla Fisher and Judi Dench. Having long been mesmerised by the urbane, witty songs of Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Irving Berlin she jumped at the chance. And fashioned two songs for the Blithe Spirit soundtrack in classic 1930s jazz style. Full of fun, humour and sarcasm, she was hooked. And the songs kept coming.
