David Giese and Lars Ydgren from Skärholmen, Stockholm, bring us an album as diverse as the suburb whose area code stemmed the band name. The two musicians are set to release their debut album under the moniker FORMATIA 127, bringing together an initial melange of balkan and oriental flavors, melded into electronic sounds and clinical rhythms, retro or modern, fast and slow.
"Sintetizator" is an experimental album, that has the playing of Lars Ydgren at the very core of the diverse and powerful instrumentals brought together by David Giese, with subtle references to many musical areas that range from romanian manele to classic 70s synth music or the organic development of live performances at Club Sintetizator in Stockholm, which David runs. The album also features a track with Matteo Islandezu, musician and producer from Romania, who mixed and mastered the album, adding his own touch to complete the formula and bringing vocals and guitar to the track FTL.
"Sintetizator" has a wide range of sounds, new and old, with a fresh approach to the woodwind mastery of Lars, as if his instruments are more like vocals, with their expression central to the ever changing landscape of the spacey instrumentals, fitted with dreamy synths or upfront robotic riffs.
This new album is more likely a summit than a debut for the two artists. David has been active since 1986 with bands and collaborations including Big Fish, Pure Pain, Kajsa Grytt and Moder Jords Massiva, as a producer, singer, musician and DJ. He has been focusing on balkan and oriental sounds since 2005, running the label "European Music" putting out 7" singles with Arabic, Azeri, Albanian and Romanian electronic music. On the other side, Lars has been playing in Sweden's lead Klezmer band, Den Flygande Bokrullen since 1994. He has performed twice at the brass festival of Guca with his band Süperstar Orkestar, as well as touring in Serbia and Macedonia. The two have been playing together as early as 1999, as members of the huge electronic impro collective Moder Jords Massiva, with many performances including Denmark's Roskilde Festival in 2003.
As of June 18th 2021, the album is available on all platforms, with a vinyl release coming soon via European Music.
