Indie rock group from Southern California.
The music of the Stevenson Ranch Davidians has something spiritual about it, as well as the title “Psalms, Hymns And Spiritual Songs”. The band name of the Stevenson Ranch comes from the community of the same name in Los Angeles, California, which manages itself and tries in regular council meetings to solve the challenges of the ever-growing community. The resident quartet consists of singer and guitarist Dwayne Seagraves, bassist and organist Jessica Latiolait, Brian Showalter (drums) and Matt Assmus (guitar). Together, they create a music that moves between psychedelic pop and space rock, but is characterized by clear structures.
There is talk of spirituality because existential concepts and thoughts run through the entire work, conveying to the listener that he is not alone. Finally, The Stevenson Ranch, Davidians, winkingly pretend to be one with the universe.
And indeed, they are like preachers who give their generation a soft voice. Unlike traditional cult communities or religions, the concept seems very simple in this case. A divine, redemptive authority is renounced, but nature is placed at the center of the life context.
Self-responsibility is at the center of existence; Humanity, solidarity are the aspired values. This wholeness, which is located in reality, characterizes the musical activity of this band. Nature is the way!
There is nothing wrong with such a secular attitude if, as in this case, it does not impose itself on the listener and, moreover, presents itself in the gentle indie-rock garb.
The Stevenson Ranch Davidians will be in Los Angeles at the end of June 2005 to record their debut album at Red Rockets Glare Studio. Produced by Raymond Richards and completed in November 2005. In 2006 the song “Getting By” will be released on the compilation “Psychedelica Volume One” by Northern Star.
