Julian Casablancas is the frontman of the New York band The Strokes. While The Strokes have creative disagreements, and the release of the fourth album is postponed, 31-year-old Julian is releasing his first solo album.
Julian's main inspiration comes from Oscar Wilde's essay "Phrases And Philosophies For The Use Of The Young" from where the album got its name. He explains: "Oscar Wilde's creation gives us a reason to chuckle at how shallow people are about things. I am developing that idea and writing more about arrogance and shortsightedness."
The album was recorded during 2009 in New York, Los Angeles and Nebraska with the help of producer James Laider and multi-instrumentalist Mike Mojis of Bright Eyes.
