Flower Myth Records is proud to present Cable a Tierra - the experimental, ambient sound track originally written for the award winning documentary The Sky Commodified (2019). Composed almost completely of field recordings captured on-site at various observatories in the Atacama Desert in Chile.
The soundscapes presented explore the rich acoustic economy of the Atacama Desert, the deep connection between earth and space, the translation of distant quasars from light to data, the wind as it travels across ancient rock, through modern industrial structures of steel and wire.
A beautiful, otherworldly journey through time and space, at times mysterious, dark, nervous, innocent, beautiful, transcendent, at the edge of understanding. It is the sound of the earth, the sound of our stars, the universe made audible. Cable a Tierra.
About the Artists:
Nicole L’Huillier works with sounds, vibrations, resonances, and multiple transductions to explore more-than-human performativity and agency from micro to cosmic scales; to create membranal and resonant (neo)rituals; and to investigate vibrations and sounds as construction materials for spaces and identity while fostering collectivity and stimulating imagination in non-static and embodied ways. From an antidisciplinary perspective, she navigates the porous and fertile territories between arts and sciences. She works with new and ancient technologies for storytelling and creation to actively engage with the possibilities beyond anthropocentric perspectives and to practice decolonial worldling.
Nicolás Kisic Aguirre is a Peruvian architect and transdisciplinary sound artist who creates machines that explore and illuminate the social and political nature of sound in public space. Informed by his background in architecture and a lifelong fascination with machines, Nicolás designs and builds sound instruments that explore the connection between public space, power, technology, and sound. His critical and aesthetic practice is open-source, collaborative, and deeply engaged with the public.
Carlos Cabezas, founder in 1985 and leader of Electrodomésticos, an experimental industrial electronic rock band, Carlos cabezas is a composer, producer and singer. He has released 8 albums with Electrodomésticos and 8 in his solo career. In the 90's he set up Konstantinopla Studios where fundamental records of the Chilean music scene were recorded.
Composer of music for film and TV, he has participated in 18 films and series including No, El Club and Neruda with Pablo Larraín.
A musician with an always different and risky approach to musical production, he has explored different fields, from mantras to bolero to experimental music and sound design. Currently very active, with plans to release 3 albums next year with Electrodomésticos, La Banda del dolor and Cordillera, as well as music for Netflix and Starz series.
Eric Maltz is multi-instrumentalist with an ear for the improvised and experimental. He runs the label Flower Myth, a platform where he curates and produces the muzine Acoustic Jaguar. Eric is a composer and sound designer for film and multi-media and has had his original music released on Possible Futures, Midnight Themes, Novel Sound, and Flower Myth. He has brought his live performance to Berlin Atonal, Tresor, and Cashmere Radio.
Kevin Marblestone is an architectural designer based in Boston, MA. His work focuses on broadening the role of time-based media in the design process to reexamine architecture education and the industry’s relationship with the environment. Kevin has developed and implemented design-based educational tools at a variety of scales, including the design and fabrication of an interactive climate change exhibit for a natural history museum, and an experimental playground for adolescent students studying astronomy.
