Moonwise - Common Ground (2021) Hi-Res

Moonwise is a quintet carried by hauntingly grooved bass-drum rhythm, incandescent guitar, vintage keyboards and hypnotic vocals.

Since their meeting in 2018, these five musicians from the Rennes jazz scene have refined their pulse and sculpted their arrangements, skilfully mixing pop, jazz and soul in the service of a sensual score, from which solar energy emerges.

Their music stems from common influences, drawing from London Afro-jazz, US funk, and late-1960s pop-folk. Tinted with Portishead-style acoustic trip-hop and Kokoroko-style Afrobeat, its color recalls the beginnings of Jamiroquai. The passionate search for modern soul leads their project to a singular and bewitching continent.

Carried by an elegant songwriting between urban poetry, vanished loves, and engaged meditations, Moonwise invites to an introspective journey and questions the excesses of the contemporary world.

After a first eponymous EP released in 2020 on the Odyssea records label, the Rennes residents of Moonwise are releasing their first album "Common Ground" in October 2021.
