Under the motto left by Stefan Zweig in his farewell letter in exile, "May they still see the dawn after the long night!", this recording with the Auner Quartet features string quartets by Alexander Zemlinsky (Opus 4 from 1896), Egon Wellesz (his 5th String Quartet from 1943 with the subtitle "Memoriam"), Anton Webern (his "Lang Lang" from 1943 with the subtitle "Lang" from 1943 with the subtitle "Lang" from 1943 with the subtitle "Lang" from 1943). String Quartet from 1943 with the subtitle "In memoriam" referring to the lost time), Anton Webern (his "Langsamer Satz" from 1905), all referring to the Viennese period at the turn of the century. Fritz Kreisler's "Syncopation", composed in the 1920s, is then heard as an encore, linking the piece to the USA, where Kreisler enjoyed enormous popularity and whose musical stylistic elements had in turn conquered the dance halls of Central Europe before they, like the music of Zemlinsky, Wellesz, Webern and Kreisler himself, were banned in Germany and its associated Austria during some of the darkest years of the 20th century.
