Fretwork - Armada (Music for viol consort from England and Spain) (2000)

Armada presents a musical contest between the composers of the Spanish and English courts, to mirror the great sea battle of 1588. England is represented by William Byrd and the less familiar figures of Elway Bevin, Robert Parsons and Robert White; Spain by the father and son Antonio and Hernando de Cabezón, by Diego Ortiz and Miguel de Fuenllana. The companion disc is an all-English programme including music for viol consort by such towering figures as Byrd, John Dowland and the remarkable William Lawes, who was to die fighting the royalist cause in the English Civil War.

English regarded Gamba to be rich family's social activity, around 1600 Gamba is not so skillful that many gentlemen could play :)

Track 19 is from anonymous' song "Heart's Ease":
Musicians, oh, musicians, play “Heart’s Ease,” “Heart’s Ease.” Oh, I’ll die if you don’t play “Heart’s Ease."
by Peter who thought Juliet died, in Romeo and Juliet of Shakespeare :))
