Shadows and Light is a perfect title for this album because the songs go in a spectrum from light to dark or dark to light in their subject matter and to some extent their listening pleasure. (If you start with dark and go to light) songs like "Flesh and Blood" are dark and dingey with some depth of lyrics. Songs like "You Won't See Me Cry" and "Goodbye, Carmen" are a little lighter but are still melancholy with some powerful lyrics though. "All the Way From New York" is a bit lighter - less sad. Then we have songs like "Give it Up" (which would have fit nicely on the first album), and "Fueled For Houston" which are pretty straight pop songs with good choruses which can stick in your head. In the beginning and end of the album we have "Hear Me" and "Hear Me (Reprise)" which are great and they showcase the ladies' harmony. The other songs on the album vary in strength of lyrics and enjoyablity but aren't worth mentioning really. Overall a very different album then Wilson Phillip's first album. It's also a lot deeper and diverse lyrically.
