“İstanbul'dan”, founded by Ayca Dastan in 2016; consists of experienced musicians who live in Istanbul and have studied in different fields such as classical western, jazz, folk and rock music. In this project, which was started in order to understand and touch the lands they live on, the group interprets the folk songs of Anatolian culture in their own language.
The band creates its musical expression, in other words, its 'own language', from the perspective of the city they live in, Istanbul. In order to understand the culture of the land on which he lives, he takes the stories of the folk songs as his source, and carries these stories to the present, to the present moment.
Another important element that feeds on is improvisation. The emotions in the stories are the main food source of the improvisations, and these improvisations create the band musicians' own stories. In this way, the stories that they feed on from the past meet the musicians' own stories.
This performance is shaped by improvisations that convey the cycle between the past/present and the future and vary each time; It turns into a new experience for those who love and know folk songs, as well as for the listener who hears it for the first time.
