Joan Baez is a Mexican-born American citizen born in 1941 in New York. His father is a physics teacher and his mother tells a drama story at university. There were also ministers in the ascending branches of his family. He studied guitar at Boston University and gained a thorough but not virtuoso guitar knowledge. He began to take folk music more seriously around 1958. He accompanied his excellent singing voice with the playing of his acoustic guitar. His first major performance was in 1959 at the Newport Folk Festival. His talent was noticed by the Vanguard company and they soon found contact with each other. Shortly after the contract was signed, her first album, named after the singer, was released. On this disc is the song We Shall Overcome, which has become the anthem of left-wing youth because of what he has to say. In 1963, there was a massive demonstration in Vashington; the enthusiastic crowd sang We Shall Overcome. With her current politically charged songs, she became the number one folk protest singer in the US. In the 1960s, he worked with the country’s greatest folk musician, Bob Dylan. They performed together at various events. During the Vietnam War, he was a performer of protest protest songs and later remained faithful to this style. In 1965, on the grounds that he did not contribute to the expenses of the Vietnam War, he refused to pay taxes. This was not the first such protest in American history against an unjust war.
Baez was an activist for Amnesty International who was imprisoned several times for political activity and revelation of his thoughts. He also visited Vietnam, Hanoi, where he visited American prisoners of war. It was here that the first live recordings of his album 73 were made, which provided a significant part of the musical material on the disc. She was one of the prophetesses of the anti-war movement. The common idea brought him together with David Harris, a member of the movement. Baez married him in 68, but they could not live together for long. Her husband was sentenced to 3 years in prison. The woman did not give up the fight. He has performed at the Woodstock Festival, the pinnacle of the hippie era. Already at the end of the first day, the crowd of hundreds of thousands sang songs and ballads full of left-wing views, among which perhaps Joe Hill deserves special mention. Another curiosity of the concert was the number he performed in a duo and which was recommended to Ronald Reagen, then Governor of California:
In 1970, the events of his political work were summarized in a film screened entitled Carry It On. The following year brought him the joy of privacy: a son was born, whom he named Gabriel. However, the family idyll did not last long, and the two strongly politicized people divorced later this year. Although the divorce wore it, it did not take away from the urge to work, it still formed steadily and continuously. At the end of the decade, in 1979, he unexpectedly and incomprehensibly - to the surprise and delight of the right - supported Vietnamese boaters. For a long time after his controversial act, his solo album was not released, there was no label who undertook to launch a new Joan Baez album on the market. Although his songs appeared different? on discs containing selections, it took seven years for the album Recently to be released. Although rarely, new songs from Baez still appear today and even rarer, but can also be seen on stage. He is definitely one of the great figures in rock music, among those who have radically reshaped the image of the music world. He has found plenty of followers in the folk genre, and his vast oeuvre adds to the line of true values.
