The new era for Mexican-American artist: Monogem, tugs at her roots in jazz and soul, backed by the same chic electro-pop sensibilities she’s known for. The Los Angeles musician, also known as Jen Hirsh, has found comfort in writing from the heart, reflected in her breakthrough Spanish-language single, “Soy Lo Que Soy” (translation: ‘I am what I am’). This is a personal and career milestone for Hirsh—it marks the first time she was courageous enough to incorporate her Guadalajaran heritage in her music, all to follow through on a promise she made with her abuela never to lose it.
After the release of her So Many Ways EP in 2019, and a follow up Spanish single, “Paraíso”, MONOGEM is set to release her debut bilingual album in Spring 2021. With praise from Rolling Stone, Billboard, Harper’s Bazaar, KCRW, Remezcla and more…it is clear MONOGEM is on the right path.
