Subtextures is an immersive and panoramic excursion into the further reaches of atmospheric bass music. Compiled by Naasko, this forward-thinking compilation is comprised of next generation artists from the UK, Canada, the US and Australia, each of whom bring their distinctive production style into the Interchill orbit. Incorporating shades of dub, dubstep, jazz and downtempo electronica, these diverse tracks are united by their underlying sub bass which ties this heady selection together into a cohesive top shelf musical experience. With plenty of low end bounce existing alongside some deeper rolling grooves, Subtextures presents a unique strata of unclassifiable musical hybrids that reside in a niche all their own. This is liminal music, crucial listening that traces the contours and skirts the edges of that which is easily defined.
Following up on the 2012 compilation ‘Depth Charge’ this latest output from Interchill takes it a step farther into the laid-back side of deep dubstep and features fresh tracks from the likes of the UKs Biome, Geode, Trashbat, Sepia, Rowl, Congi and Gyu, while producers Matt Deco and Dubsworth represent the US and Daega Sound, HxdB, Jafu and IMRSV hold it down from north of the 49th. Finally, from Australia, Commit rounds out the roster with the closing track on the compilation with a plunge down under into dub-tech terrain. With several of these artists appearing at The Grove stage this year at the renowned Shambhala Music Festival in BC, Subtextures is dedicated to the festival season just around the corner. The collection assembled here is essential summer listening, ideally suited for headphones, chillspaces, road trips to and from festivals, and those in-between times at home or wherever you find yourself. Go on, dive in.
