Bio
He was born in Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires, in 1985.
He began his formal relationship with music in 1998, at the Bahía Blanca Provincial Conservatory of Music. There he studied saxophone with Professor Sebastián De Amicis.
In 2006 he received an Instrumental Technician specializing in Saxophone, and two years later he obtained the title of Professor of Sax. In 2008 he started taking classes with saxophonist Ricardo Cavalli.
In 2010, Torres Fernández made the decision to move to the City of
Buenos Aires to pursue a Jazz Degree at the Manuel de
Falla Conservatory . There he studied with great Argentine musicians such as Ernesto Jodos, Carlos Lastra, Eloy Michelini, Juan Pablo Arredondo, Valentín Reiners and Marcelo Gutfraind, among others. He also had the opportunity to take classes with leading saxophonists George Garzone (USA) and Wayne Escoffery (UK).
In 2012 he was awarded a scholarship by the National Endowment for the Arts to participate as a student in the “1st Argentine Meeting of Composition and Improvisation”, held in the City of Villa Gesell. There he trained with Marcelo Moguilevsky, Oscar Edelstein and Ernesto Jodos.
Since his arrival in the City of Buenos Aires, he has participated in numerous national and international jazz festivals, in addition to having performed in different clubs in the city. During the last years he has shared projects with: Valentín Reiners, Ernesto Jodos, Marcelo Gutfraind, Eloy Michelini, Jerónimo Carmona, Charles Toliver (USA), John Hollenbeck (USA), Ann Sofi Söderqvist (Sweden), Gustavo Bergalli, Juan Bayón , Hernán Jacinto, Bruno Varela, Víctor Skorupsky, Gustavo Musso, Sergio Beresovsky, Carlos Michelini, Mauricio Dawid , Francisco Lovuolo, Federico Lazzarini, Michael Pipoquinha (Brazil), Elthon Díaz (Br), Isaac Negrene (Br), Mariano Loiácono, Arturo Puertas, Martín Pantyrer, Tomás Babjaczuk, Ezequiel Giunta, Andrés Elstein, Nahuel Aschei, Sergio Verdinelli, Fran Cossavella , Pablo Moser , Flavio Romero, Emmanuel Famin, Sergio Wagner, Ramiro Franceschin, Fermín Merlo, Juan Cruz de Urquiza and Juan Canosa, among others.
Currently, Juan Torres Fernández is part of the following projects: Livin´ Soul Project, Ultramar (group led by Juan Bayón), Flavio Romero Grupo, Leandro García Cuarteto, Fabián Martín Quinteto and Martín López Grande Cuarteto.
