Ella Fitzgerald, auprès des Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, a porté l’art du jazz si haut qu’il ne peut, après elle, qu’être différent et partir dans une autre direction.

Ella Jane Fitzgerald naît le 25 avril 1917 à Newport News en Virginie. Elle grandit près de New York. Sa mère travaille dans une blanchisserie, son père ayant abandonné le domicile conjugal peu de temps après sa naissance. Elle rêve alors d'être danseuse.
