Gothic Voices travel to Italy to explore the origins of its impressive polyphonic music via the greatest composer of the age: Francesco Landini.
This recording offers a selection of Landini’s ballate and madrigali – some well known, others seldom performed – and his only surviving caccia. One of the most prominent and influential composers of the 14th century, Landini’s innovative approach to choral writing revolutionized the whole of western music, particularly the madrigal.
A Laurel for Landini not only sets out the panorama of the time and the genius of Landini himself, but also works by his contemporaries. Gothic Voices, together with harpist Andrew Lawrence-King, effortlessly bring this music to life in a fitting celebration of one of Italy’s greatest composers.
