Gabriel Dalvit - Ra (2021)

With the Spanish pianist Albert Sanz and the Swiss alto saxophonist Gabriel Dalvit, two jazz musicians have come together who belong together.

For both, the essence of the music is at the center, both are masters in avoiding exaggerations of any kind. They belong to a species of jazz musicians who create a kind of subtle tension that does not overwhelm you, but enchants and enchants you - that's what they stand for in a row with Bix Beiderbecke, Lester Young, Charlie Christian, Hank Jones, Wayne Shorter, Lee Konitz or Jim Hall (to name just a few examples).

Dalvit and Sanz's music comes across as unpretentious, unexcited, warm and thoughtful. And naturalistic: the substance of the pieces is neither alienated nor stretched in the improvisations, but at most slightly abstracted.

Sanz and Dalvit do not reflect the zeitgeist in their pieces, but their own spirit. And last but not least, this spirit is nourished by a profound examination of the tradition of jazz. The result of this dispute is not just respect, but the ability to serve the music and to forego ego gimmicks. A strong musical spell -Who could ask for anything more?
