What's wrong with these audio files?

Audio is scrambled, when played via iTunes or macOS audio player.

VLC is capable of playback, and sees embedded cover image.
VLC also reports a sample rate of 32 kHz and a bitrate of 320 kBit/sec. The latter seems OK, but 32 kHz sample rate is somewhat ... improbable.

Never had something like that before.
