Dām-Funk - Above The Fray (2021)

Stones Throw veteran Dām-FunK brings us his first full-length since 2015's, and his first for his own Glydezone Recordings label (est 2016). Contemporary west coast jazz-funk and leftfield breaks from the Thundercat/Flying Lotus school of thought is the order of the day here, with cuts ranging from dreamy mellow synth pieces like 'Evolution' and 'City Beach Groove' through to faster-paced workouts like the title track - though the emphasis is by and large on the former, making for an album that'd be equally at home in a flotation tank or on your headphones for the morning commute.
