Fabio Bonizzoni - Giovanni Picchi and the Venetian School (2020)

In this collection of 16th- and early 17th-century music for keyboard that takes Venice as a programming pillar, the best represented composer is Giovanni Picchi, who lends his name for titling the recording. But as has become clear over the last decades of specialized scholarship, there existed a huge amount of splendid keyboardists/composers during the time. Many of them hardly wrote their music down, yet alone saw it published. Among the better known (and published) are Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Merulo and Annibale Padovano, all represented on this recording that contains toccatas, ricercars, ballos and passamezzos performed by a Fabio Bonizzoni in top form.
