That Band began in 2011 when bassist Chuck Terzian and Randy Maynard partnered with local Abilene area legendary guitarist Doug Roysden and his wife Shannon, an emerging singer. For more than a decade, The Doug Roysden Band toured Texas and New Mexico establishing Doug as a blues/rock guitarist and showcasing Shannon as a back-up and eventually a lead singer. That era produced two albums; "Don't Push Me," and "Glasses." "Shakin' Bones" features Shannon's voice as she harmonizes with Doug on four songs and with guest artist Darrell Boone Pittman on another, and also as lead vocalist on six songs which she co-wrote.
Randy Maynard adds years of experience from behind the drums and covers every style from country and rock to soul and jazz. Randy's cymbal and high hat work are his signature. No one knew in 2013 when recording began that this would be Randy's swan song. Randy Maynard died in January, 2014 before the record was mixed. Rest in Peace, "Curly."
Uncle Charley (Terzian) is a lifelong classic rock bassist. Uncle Charley's life experiences are expressed in pages and pages of lyrics, poems and random e-mail. The songs on "Shakin' Bones" began with jam sessions where Shannon would put a page of Uncle Charley's life in front of her and add to it her poetic commentary and what resulted was a records of songs about reality, fantasy, grief and euphoria. All of this happened in a year when three people very close to the project died, while births, arrests, graduations and re-unions provided a chaotic back-drop.
If you add to all that some fun saxophone work from Dickie Rosser of Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88's, A passionate solo from Wes Martin (during the week of his father's death), solid piano and organ performances from Steve Couch and EJ Kay, Guy Gamble's magical flute and guest artist Darrell Boone Pittman as vocalist, guitarist and songwriter (Me and Jesus), then you have "Shakin' Bones!"
Oh, and not too overlook Eric Hicks ukulele performance on "Hydrocodone Blues!" Stay Clean!
