Vivaldi’s vocal and instrumental works with trumpet are not only very interesting from a musical point of view but also brilliantly written.
This is the first recording that makes available virtually all of these compositions, which are still rather little-known and which encompass the entire career of the Venetian composer.
In the first half of the 1700s, the aria with concertante trumpet was one of the ingredients that the public of the numerous Venetian theatres appreciated the most. Spurred by his innate curiosity for any type of instrument, Vivaldi has left us about ten very fine examples of operatic aria with trumpet. The oldest ones date from his Mantua period (1718-1720), while the most recent ones belong to the last phase of his operatic career (1732-1737).
Inspired by an instrument that the collective imagination associated with the idea of war and triumph, Vivaldi shaped a type of writing that gives the greatest care for details and is particularly brilliant, characterized by an original syncretism of vocal and instrumental stylistic features.
