Alive! 1975-2000 is a unique box set in the KISS discography. What makes it so is the fact that all four albums were remastered (or in the case of disc 4, mastered) in 2006. What this means, and this probably only matters if you're a KISS fanatic like myself, is that Alive! and Alive II are different from their initial CD pressings as well as the '97 remasters and Alive III is remastered here for the first time. They would be remastered yet again in 2014 though available only on either vinyl or high resolution downloads. Thus far only Love Gun's 2014 remaster has found its way to CD. As funds allow I'll be getting more of those hi-res versions (because for me having multiple CD verions and the vinyl just isn't enough) so keep an eye out for that if you're interested. Or, even better, get them yourself and share them here to save me money!
These remasters were done by George Marino and Alive III in particular sounds great. With respect to disc 4, there are three tracks on the vinyl version (which can be found in my KISSTERIA torrent) that are not here. That is a shame because, in my opinion, CDs just sound better. Though Universal did release most of the KISS catalog in high res format the Millennium Concert was left out. Actually, everything post '96 was. I really hope that changes and I especially hope CD versions come out. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.
Kiss Alive! 1975–2000 is a collection of live recordings from American hard rock band Kiss, released by Universal Music on November 21, 2006.
This box set marks the debut appearance of Kiss' Millennium Concert performance, recorded on December 31, 1999 at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada. This was originally slated to be released in 2000 as Alive IV. However, after Kiss' parent label, Mercury, was swallowed by the Universal/Vivendi merger, this version of Alive IV was shelved. Universal later agreed to Kiss using the Mercury label for the release, but this project was also shelved indefinitely. Instead, the band released the Kiss Symphony: Alive IV album on Kiss Records/Sanctuary Records in 2003.
The 72-page booklet that comes with this set mistakenly credits songwriting for "Cold Gin" to Paul Stanley instead of Ace Frehley.
Kiss Alive! 1975–2000 won the 2007 Classic Rock Roll of Honours Award for Best Reissue
