Nico Yaryan's debut album is the result of an all-too-short relationship with a girl from Amsterdam, whom he met while on tour with fellow Californian Hanni El Khatib. The songs came to being while Yaryan struggled, in the end unsuccessfully, to maintain a transcontinental relationship, having been unable to stay in Europe on a permanent basis. Alternate months spent working as a marijuana harvester in Northern California and traveling to and from the Netherlands proved to be no way to sustain a meaningful bond, and their relationship unfolded in the face of geographical and financial adversity. These themes of hope, perseverance, and, ultimately, heartbreak run deep throughout the album.
