Music & the Mind: Triumph of Spirit over Sorrow, recognizes and honors the link between creativity and mental health conditions. This link has been recognized since ancient times, with modern research suggesting that the prevalence of mental illness is higher amongst artists, musicians, and writers, than in the general population. It is not surprising, then, that many composers have struggled with mental llness, while simultaneously creating works of genius. In this album, we highlight 4 composers, Rachmaninoff, Arensky, Tchaikovsky, and Schumann, whose creativity and perseverance despite their personal struggles with mental illness, have brought joy and beauty to so many.
