“Performing arts does not only mean knowledge but also the ability of presenting the knowledge. ” (Thoman Istvan, Bartok Bela The main inspiration to create this album was the encouragement I received from the guests of the Spirit Hotel, the audience loving my piano play and my friends. The album endeavours to recreate the music experience that so many have had the chance to enjoy on so many occasions in the Spirit Hotel.
The pieces of various music styles succeed one another on the album arranged in separate music blocks. The individual linking of the music pieces was inspired by the joint force of instinct, emotions and music intelligence.
Bar piano playing is by no means a simple music genre. It is a challenge. It largely depends on the mood, state of mind, preparedness and experience of the pianist what pieces of music he selects for each evening. Whether it be a contemporary pop hit, an old chanson, an evergreen, a jazz standard or even a classical piece, the pianist will be able to adapt them to his own personal style if he is creative enough and if the music is selected appropriately. If he can present the essence and beauty of the music within the featured piece and he himself is fully involved, then the music impact and the cathartic experience will also follow, energising and purifying its listeners emotionally and spiritually. Brilliant virtuosity generally astounds, while the beauty and wonder of music enchants the audience. A bar pianist must also be able to detect which music styles, songs or performers may be the favourites of his audience. This may sometimes take long and so each performance holds surprises.
With ample musical humility and deep from the heart, one can win the love of the audience. If music and concerts have its purposes, one must be this: to offer joy and memorable experiences to the people. This goal means constant motivation for an artist, a musician or a bar pianist. And the audience is grateful. What they receive during the concerts, the gift of music and art, they reward with lots of applause and appreciation. This is what foremost reassures the artist that he is on the right track and that he is doing his job right.
