Full Spectrum Records is kicking the summer season off with a double barreled dose of good old-fashioned noise and grizzled plunderphonics, courtesy of Bynum, North Carolina’s Bryce Clayton Eiman. Titled Remedies Against Discontents, this release compiles Bryce’s mid-90s experiments with treated location recordings and lo-fi electronics.
A longtime fixture on the North Carolina noise circuit, Bryce originally recorded many of these sounds while he was living in Cleveland, Ohio. Primarily intended for use in solo performance under his Erosore moniker, or in combination with Peter Keller [AKA Bacillus] in WOMB, the majority of these sounds were created between 1993 and 1996 using a Casio SK-5, but the tapes languished for years afterward.
More recently, Bryce presented our own Andrew Weathers with a massive stack of cassettes and a busted old 4-track machine and asked him to digitize the material. There was no intention of this giving rise to a release, but as Andrew got into the project he heard something vital in the midst of these dusty performance loops. He began editing the 20-minute recordings down into shorter, more focused ideas and Remedies Against Discontents began to take shape, all violent electricity and technicolor feedback.
