This recording of the two concerts in the Spiral Garden in Tokyo on September 7th and 10th, 1998 has its own fascination, transcended by the way in which the singer corresponds with the instrumentalists. Something third and magical arises that I haven't heard from Seigen before. Mystically, sometimes from the depths of the jungle, sound moods rise through the fog. Seigen is a master of the Charango, a 10-string, ukulele-like instrument that I already knew from some of the pieces by Anthony Phillips. And of course from "El Condor Pasa". Issei Igarashi can also be seen playing the (often electrically alienated) trumpet, it is breathtaking how sensitive and musically intelligent he corresponds with Seigen. A gem that you will never get out of your head is the small melodic, chorus-like phrasing in the title Rumi-chan. At the beginning you can hear trumpet intonations similar to those on David Sylvian's "Words With The Shaman". My personal favorite on this album is the title "The Fish Eat Fish" - its phrasing and empty phrases dig their way into the listening consciousness with irresistible force. The applause from Tokyo people for a top-class concert was pretty poor. I think that Seigen uses many of the loops and sounds used in the track "Aqua" for a second time, also here, and probably also in the track "Olive Tree" and others. Unfortunately, the studio version of "Aqua" is only available as part of the large Saidera Paradiso box.
