Daisuke is a Berklee trained guitar player from Japan and this is his debut CD. The CD features 8 instrumental tracks (all between 6 and 9 mins) played in the rock trio format, except the last track which features saxophone and a few with keyboards. The CD begins with a quite explosive track with a Stevie Ray Vaughn like sound (who SRV stole from Hendrix!) and some killer guitar in this hard rocker that devolves into a really jazzy piece with some great bass playing, before coming back again. This track sort of throws you off though as the rest of the CD is much more laid back jazzy stuff. On Again, Off Again is a piece that Alan Holdsworth and Scott Henderson fans would hear the influences. Great playing by this band…Tonal Gravity features some beautiful piano by Kan Sano and gives the music a more laid back vibe and another instrument to play off of. The piano is mostly featured in the first half of the track and Daisuke in the second half. Sharp is back to a more heavier bass groove with melodic guitar. He really takes off after the organ solo. Flat Line reminds me of some of the Jonas Helborg-Jeff Sipe stuff. Actually a lot of this CD does. 22 on 22 starts off kind of spacey and again features some keyboards to accent the other players while this mainly features a long melodic solo. The CD closes with Acid Approach. This might remind of some of the recent Soft Machine material. This music is really well played but perhaps a little too traditional and not challenging enough for me. Great players…
