'This Spring' is a collection of Veda Hille songs covered by Nicholas Krgovich.
"I introduced myself to Veda after one of her shows when I was fifteen years old. I had recently learned four of her songs and put together a band with my piano teacher’s daughter on violin and a drummer who was twelve. Our one and only performance was at a high school art show which took place in an empty shoe store at the mall. The night before I had recorded us practicing the songs in my parents' living room on a boombox with one mic lying on the carpet, and I sheepishly handed her the cassette. For some reason this felt completely normal to me even though I’m sure I was nervous as hell. She was a titan to me, a ginormous inspiration, someone whose music I discovered while fuzzily listening to the college radio station in my bedroom a couple years earlier. Only now after years of making records and touring do I fully realize how unusual it must have been for a fifteen year old to do this - this particular kind of fandom must be so rare to anyone who's not a megawatt superstar, especially in the nineties when the internet was barely anything.
I played a show in LA where we learned her song “Plants” and a lot of people came up to me afterwards being like “what the heck was that Plants song?”, everyone going to their phones and queueing up “Veda Hille” on their Spotify accounts. So, I was just like “wait, that’s what I’m gonna do! I’m gonna make a covers album of Veda’s songs!” And then that was that, I was off to the races and now it’s done and I’m so happy to be able to share it with her and all of you. I hope you like it and if you do please for the love of everything listen to Veda Hille’s music and buy her albums and support her theatre work and beyond. You can find everything you need to know here: www.vedahille.com Thank you for the music and thank you for the really special swirl of friendship and mentorship Veda! And thank you for listening!"
