The disc includes 5 V. Basner quartets performed by the famous group - the string quartet named after V. Taneyev, who was the first performer of these works. These quartets represent the work of W. Basner from 1948 to 1975 in the chamber instrumental genre. Basner's String Quartets, both in concert and on a CD recorded for the festival, are performed by the Taneyev Quartet. It was founded almost 60 years ago! In 1946, an outstanding violinist (now a professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory) Vladimir Ovcharek founded a quartet playing the most diverse classical repertoire. The composition of the quartet, as often happens, changed, from the first only its founder, Ovcharek, remained. But performing skills and professionalism were always present in the ensemble. The quartet was entrusted with such composers as Shostakovich (the premiere of the 15th quartet), and many contemporary composers gave the honor of first performance to this ensemble. Basner was no exception, and he greatly appreciated the skill of the musicians who gave life to his creations, and therefore to himself, his thoughts, feelings, his pain and joy. Basner's music is very personal. The creative process always forces you to bare your soul, without this you get only a formal outline. For some, this exposure comes to turning inside out, someone, on the contrary, is too neat, and "shows his shoulder", forcing the listener to get lost in conjectures and half-hints. Basner's quartets found the golden mean of candor - with powerful expression and ideological concentration of the material, unusually soft lyrics, without sugariness and so-called "water" lyrics. The melody, which is almost always whimsical and devoid of primitive (but necessary in the song) “squareness”, has plasticity and flexibility of intonation, skillfully emphasized by a string soloist, be it a violin, viola or cello. Whatever the techniques of texture, dynamics, harmonic collisions, the melody remains the main one. All quartets are very different, and they were written at different times. The first, in the 48th year (Basner is 23 years old), reflects the confusion of a young, still not strong soul in front of the terrible reality of war - the music is replete with harmonious throwings, the general character is very tense, but not oppressive. The second is much lighter, more detailed, and diverse in terms of the emotional spectrum. The third quartet with programmatic features is a large canvas - here you can feel a strengthened independent style and scale of thinking. The fourth quartet is dedicated to the composer's wife, and belongs to the field of intimate chamber lyrics, with a very beautiful elegiac episode in the second movement (the dialogue between violin and cello is a kind of symbol of the dialogue between lovers). The fifth quartet completes the disc and sums up the creativity in this genre. Here there is expression, and quotes from his own songs, and a tribute to the Teacher, to whom Basner treated with great respect and love. Despite the obvious reflection and tension of Basner's quartets, his music remains optimistic and gives the joy of believing in the best. Basner himself, probably, was such - a lyrical, cheerful, bright person, madly in love with music, and confident in its ability to nourish the human soul with light and warmth, despite the fears, doubts and pains of loss around people. “When I listen to the latest news about the cataclysms that are shaking the country, it becomes very hard and uncomfortable. And yet I am a convinced optimist. I am sure there is no return to the old. Everything must, absolutely must change for the better. If you don't believe in the future, is it worth living? " Says Basner. And again and again, he asks this question to listeners in his music, hoping that each of us will find the answer, and life will become a little warmer. ~Google Translate
