Early Reflex, the leftfield club imprint from Turin run by producer and DJ Alec Pace, celebrates its first anniversary with Flex002 a new and flashy compilation including eleven tracks from twelve artists from all around the globe. The release features music from both critically acclaimed and up and coming artists such as Tomu DJ, Katatonic Silentio, E-Talking, Sabiwa, Sobolik, Lithe, Ku Ku, AURA, Splash Pattern, YASHA and a special collaboration between DJ P and Alec Pace.
DJ E-Talking, living in Berlin and previously appearing on AD93 and Going Good Records, opens the compilation with ‘Hi-Res’, a ravey club ready tool featuring sampled speech from Kelly Mark’s "I Really Should…”.
The tantric drums and the airy pads set the beginning of the second track ‘Twoface’ which is the contribution from Australian producer and DJ Lithe, where the producer from Brisbane explores new sound territories characterised by melodic elements, resonating percussions and hypnotic rhythmics.
Warsaw-based composer and sound designer Ku Ku follows next with ‘Cat Stamp’ a cheeky club track winking to the listeners with its quirky video games inspired effects, an hopping groove and a catchy bass-line.
Up and coming New-York-based producer Tomu DJ, already known for her self-released albums, now appears for Early Reflex on Flex002 with a hooking melody and the broken beats of ‘I hope it’s not my house’.
‘Sirens’ is the special collaboration between DJ P (from TT and All Centre) and Early Reflex’ boss Alec Pace. The two producers join forces to deliver a club ready tool that is both heavy and melodic.
AURA returns on the label following his breakthrough Salt EP, this time contributing with an emotional track built around a perpetual crescendo of melodic synthesisers and percussive elements whilst remaining true to the distinctive style of the Australian producer.
Early Reflex next welcomes newcomer Sobolik to the label, fresh from their appearance on Object Blue’s recent BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. Kicking-off the second half of the compilation with their hectic d’n’b inspired ‘Camille’ a sophisticated dance tool showing the endless production skills of the young producer and DJ from New York’s Hudson Valley.
Milan-based sound artist Katatonic Silentio builds the tension up with her multi-layered production technique and a savvy use of reverb and delays in her experimental interlude ’Unfunctional Unfolding’.
The mood returns with the ravey territories of ‘Focus, Please’ the contribution from Danish producer Splash Pattern who’s known already for his clear-cut sound design works which combine corporal club appeal.
‘For those who still believe’ is the melancholic dance track from Tokyo-based American producer YASHA where escalation of suspense derives from the alternation of a synthesised melody juxtaposed with galvanising broken beats and angelical vocal samples.
Listeners are finally taken into the enchanted and spooky world of Sabiwa’s outro ‘I walk outside my body and I’m scared’ where the Taiwanese audio-visual artist blends natural elements and hypnotic piano melody with exotic marching drums and sweeping synthesizers
