Horenstein conducts the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in R.Strauss’s ‘Don Juan’ and Brahms’ Symphony No.2. Horenstein is considered to be one of the finest conductors of the 20th Century. This first release, recorded live at the Montreux Festival in 1966, is intended as introductory taster to what we hope will be an extended series of previously unissued, live and studio recordings.
Jascha Horenstein was born in Kiev in 1898 but in 1905 he and his family fled Russia to escape the 1905 revolution and settled in Vienna where he began his career. He is considered by many as one of the finest conductors of the 20th Century. Horenstein toured Europe extensively in his latter years, conducting most British orchestras. His repertoire was very wide. Gorgeous sound from a master.
