Conceived and designed to be the last album in the beautiful idea of a pop trilogy, Private Reasons may also be considered the most magnificent gateway to the musical universe of Bruno Pernadas. It is easy to understand that the circumstances of an enforced ending may well result in a grand gesture, but nothing prepared us for such impressive proof of his creative excellence, not even the earlier albums Joyful (2014) and Crocodiles (2016), in which he had already displayed the myriad ideas, resources and languages that inhabit his music. In fact, Private Reasons is a huge and definitive declaration of Pernadas’ pop art, where, once again, we are invited to travel wholeheartedly through a world of musical styles, geographies, images, voices and spirits, producing remakes of classics and glimpsing the future, in which everything seems to have been constructed with a huge sense of ambition, as if he were seeking to bequeath us a monument in his own time, and in our time too. It is a luminous compilation of epic sound-based stories that, in the midst of unconventional compositions, arrangements and instrumentation, subtly reveal to us what we can hear beyond this trilogy, beyond pop, in the future of Bruno Pernadas’ music.
