Highly praised by the world’s leading magazine Gramophone as an artist with “both nerve and unusual pianistic assurance”, the Young Steinway Artist Yi Lin Jiang immediately caught the international music world’s attention with the release of his debut album “Masques” (Solaris Records) and was rewarded with a nomination for the prestigious German Record Critics' Award within the same season. The Polish Radio valued the CD as “a collage of various colours and emotions”, the French magazine Diapason attested “a gesture carried with pride” to his playing, the international online guide AllMusic applauded “his virtuosity as well as his sensitivity to moods”, and the BR-Klassik recommended this original record as “the promising portrait of a young pianist”. The Süddeutsche Zeitung spoke about his “tremendous musicality and enthralling depth of expression”, and the Australian Limelight Magazine defined him as “an impressive new kid on the block, prodigiously talented with consummate technique and dash.”
In 2020, he established his own record label ANCLEF in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and successfully released the first EP “Philia” together with fellow Italian pianist Jacopo Giovannini as part of “Neustart Kultur” with the generous support of the German Music Council. The accompanying album “IV·XXI”, also scheduled for 2021, as well as further CD productions for the upcoming season are in planning with his long-time sound engineer Peter Laenger.
Concert invitations led the European pianist to various renowned concert halls including the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, all important venues in Munich (Prinzregententheater; Gasteig; Hercules Hall and Cuvilliés Theatre of the Munich Residence), the historical Willa Atma Zakopane, and London’s St Martin-in-the-Fields where his solo debut was celebrated with a standing ovation after an extraordinary performance of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata op. 111. He was a welcomed guest at different music festivals including the Munich Opera Festival, the Music Festival of the NDR Radio Philharmonic, the Heidelberger Klavierwoche, the Euregio Musikfestival, the Salzburg Biennale, the Internationales Klavierfestival junger Meister, the Countune Concerts and the Pianists of the World Series. Collaborations with various orchestras included the Südwestfalen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Swabian Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra, the ATTACCA-Orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera and the Young Munich Philharmonic Orchestra under notable conductors as Allan Bergius, Carlos Domínguez-Nieto, Raphael von Hoensbroech, Hans Drewanz, Alexandra Helldorff and Massimiliano Caldi. Among other important musicians who influenced his career were Gerrit Glaner, Evgeny Kissin, Francisco Araiza, Łukasz Borowicz, Herbert Schuch, Toshio Hosokawa and Julius Berger. He is the founder and artistic director of the Jiang Artists Festival.
Born 1988 in Munich, Yi Lin Jiang received his first piano lessons with Barbara Strauß at the age of six. One year later, he already won his first piano competition. He made his orchestra debut at the age of ten and was rewarded the Youth Culture Prize of Kaufbeuren as the youngest musician for his successful music activities. In 2005, he joined the world-renowned piano class of the late German pedagogue Karl-Heinz Kämmerling (1930–2012), first at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, since 2010 at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media where he belonged to the last generation of his teacher's students. Since 2012, he studied with the famous Polish pianist Ewa Kupiec and graduated with highest distinction (2013: Bachelor of Music | 2015: Master of Music | 2018: concert exam). Next to his concert career, he is also teaching at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media as Ewa Kupiec’s assistant since 2015, as well as a docent with his own class since 2017.
