"These songs attempt to capture the feeling of confusion and frustration with how our world works. The rampant exploitation, the fundamentalist neoliberal project, the Australian bushfires, personal financial ruin, a global pandemic, death of species I’ve been finishing my debut album at a time when it feels like all of these concepts are culminating and converging.
I am sick of how this world is run. How unequal it is. Not by some sort of divine providence but by conscious, corporate and political design.
Decade Zero is written as a beacon of hope, sent from a dying world. But this isn’t post-apocalyptic music - I hate that term. I think the more that people talk about the apocalypse, the more that people are ok with the idea of it. I don’t think this helps the public psyche. I’d rather think of this moment - and this music - as pre-utopian. We should be pushing for change and looking to visions of a green future rather than expecting the worst. Otherwise, what’s the point?"
