Off White is a 1979 album by American no wave band James White and the Blacks.
James Chance & The Contortions was a group led by saxophonist and vocalist James Chance. They were one of the original groups of the New York 'No Wave' music scene and were variously described as Punk-Funk, Avant-Garde, Punk-Jazz and Post-Punk. Their first recording, credited solely as Contortions, was on the 1978 compilation, 'No New York', produced by Brian Eno.The following year, two albums were issued almost simultaneously on ZE Records; 'Buy' and 'Off White', the latter under the moniker James White And The Blacks. The same musicians recorded both records, though none are credited on the album cover. Chance went on to record two further albums as James White And The Blacks, but 'Off White' remains a classic release of its time.
