Walter's 9 may seem underpowered to some, used to somewhat more savage readings, but to me this is the best of Bruckner, and the best recording of this piece.Like Schubert(in my opinion,at least)Bruckner saved the best for the final 2 symphonies, both having an unfinished and a complete one, both great works. This 9 used to have a Penguin guide rosette, but I'm guessing that as this recording is no longer available as anything but an American import, they no longer feature it in their reviews...anyway,for me,this is a refreshing change from the more bombastic versions.
