Associação de Canto Coral - Missa São Sebastião: Heitor Villa-Lobos (1968/2021)

In it we have a work by Heitor Villa-Lobos (Rio de Janeiro, 5/3/1887-idem, 11/17/1959), the best-known South American composer of all time. It is the “Missa São Sebastião”, composed in 1937 and presented for the first time to the public on November 13 of the same year, under the regency of the author. On disk, however, it would only appear in 1968, at the initiative of the brand Festa, by Irineu Garcia. The interpretation, at the chapel (that is, without instrumental accompaniment), is from the Associação de Canto Coral do Rio de Janeiro, under the direction of its founder and then artistic director, Cleofe Person de Mattos (Rio de Janeiro, 12/17/1913 -idem, 2/5/2002), also a teacher and musicologist. The back cover, written in Portuguese, English and Spanish, gives more details about the piece. Therefore, this is another work of the highest level that TM presents us today, interesting even for those who do not appreciate sacred music.
