Matteo Giudici - Improving (2021)

Immortalized in the gesture of coming out of brute matter, Michelangelo's Prisons powerfully evoke a great paradox of our existence (and of this record): on the one hand the longing for accomplishment, on the other the desire for infinity. "Completed" (goal of that "becoming oneself" which necessarily presupposes the experience of choice and limit) and "infinite" (as an inextinguishable thirst for expansion, for eternal possibility) are sirens that tear us apart, chimeras towards which they blow relentlessly Logos and Chaos, the forces that tirelessly structure, order, build on the one hand and destroy, upset, open up abysses on the other.
As castaways "in the great sea of ​​being", we cling to the intuitions of geniuses like Michelangelo: it is not exactly in the form of his Prisons, abandoned to imperfection and the eternal effort to come to light, which coexist as if by spell complete, unfinished, limited, possible and infinite?
Improving is a musical journey where cultured music, jazz, film music, rock coexist: the listening and musical passions of a lifetime (from the minimalism of Steve Reich to the oneiricity of György Ligeti, passing through the dilated suggestions of Pink Floyd and the poignant sweetness by Ennio Morricone) nourish the compositions and the musical language giving life to a sound research that communicates a strong sense of depth, mystery, amazement and delicacy.
