Laura Bretan took part in the eleventh season of America's Got Talent. It finished within the top 5 in 2016.
Laura Bretan is from Chicago, Illinois (born April 7, 2002). Encouraged by her mother, Laura started singing in church when she was only 4 years old. When she was seven years old and was listening to Disney's "Sleeping Beauty," she discovered other sides of her singing skills, yet continued to sing primarily Christian music.
In 2014, she started listening to other genres and discovered the singing of arias. She developed a preference for classical music and started out as an opera singer. She believes that she can touch people's hearts with her voice and hopes to be an inspiration to others, especially her peers, to also become interested in opera music as much as she loves it but at the same time realizes that it is not the easiest music.
Born American, Laura is also Romanian, the country where her parents come from. She went to Romania for her grandfather's funeral and took part in Romania's Got Talent, which was her grandfather's wish. Laura won the competition. When she won a large sum of money, she donated a large part of it to help orphans and homeless people.
It has always been Laura's dream to participate in America's Got Talent.
Laura Bretan's audition in episode 111 consisted of singing "Nessun dorma" from the opera Turandot. Her performance earned her a standing ovation from the audience and judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B, and Howie Mandel. Enthusiastic by her performance, Mel B gave her the Golden Buzzer, which made Laura go straight to the quarterfinals.
Laura Bretan's performance in the quarterfinals consisted of singing the song The Prayer by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. Mel B, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell gave her another standing ovation. Laura got enough votes to advance to the semifinal.
In the semifinal Laura sang “Pie Jesu”. Again she got a standing obviate from the jury. Laura finished in 4th, 5th and 6th place in America's voting. In the Dunkin 'Save, Laura received more votes than Tape Face (another candidate). Due to the votes of the jury, with the exception of Howie Mandel who did not vote for her this time, Laura advanced to the final.
In the finals Laura sang “O mio babbino caro”. Again standing ovations here. For the final in episode 1122 Laura sang “Nessun dorma” together with the Italian Eurovision participants trio Il Volo. Unfortunately, Laura did not get enough votes to advance to the final final.
