Innocent Eve - Viking (2021)

Queensland sister duo Innocent Eve are a true testimony to the power of song as a binding force. Brought up as part of a family united by music, Rachel and Bec Olsson have a lifetime of music and performance behind them as they step into the irrefutably changed landscape of 2021.

Their debut release in 2015, the album ‘Temporary Balms, reached critical acclaim and notable airtime across Australia, placing in the CMC Top 40. Since then, the pair have worked exclusively with ARIA and Golden Guitar award winning producer, Matt Fell from Love HZ Studios in Sydney and released an EP ‘True North’ in 2016, as well as three singles to date, ‘Mixed Bag’, ‘Viking’ and this February’s ‘Three Quarter Time’. ‘Viking’, the single, reached number one in the TMN Country Charts in May of 2020 while ‘Three Quarter Time’ recently made the Country Songs Top 40 Australian Airplay chart and the Country Radio Top 10. It was also added to the ‘New Country’ and ‘Homegrown’ on CMT and Spotify’s ‘Country Chill’ playlist.

Now into the flow of 2021 and the girls are ready to release their much-anticipated album, ‘Viking’, which is a self-proclaimed voyage through the girls’ lives, loves and perspectives on the world they find themselves in. While the latest single was a personal lament on a lonely period in Bec’s life, the album is written in equal parts by both sisters. The process of writing the songs has been a thorough and meticulous one and once more, Matt Fell has been instrumental in producing the girls’ work. A voyage through heartbreak, unbreakable love, political commentary and personal exploration, the new album is a broad spectrum of music and lyrical prowess.

The girls live highlights have included performing at the Bluebird Café in Nashville as part of the Australian showcase at Americanafest in 2017, as well as performances across legendary Australian events such as the Gympie Muster and Birdsville Big Red Bash. The pair were ambassadors for the Airlie Beach Festival of Music in 2019 and played the same year.

Throughout the girls’ life experiences, they have remained constant companions and the love for the music and the live performance is as tangible as any you will see in a sibling act. Their lives have been a journey through thick and thin together and you can sense that in their music and performance. Through Bec’s ongoing cancer battle, to raising children and travelling Australia, the lessons have been significant, and resilience is at the core of the girls’ outlook.
