I have been lucky enough to record with kinds of orchestras from the New York Philharmonic to the great Tonight Show band, from the London Symphony to Richard Tucker. A recording session is a strange experience. There is always an air of anticipatory excitement, but I doubt anybody really knows what is going to happen until everybody is assembled. This date has been a completely unique experience for me.
The orchestra had, by today’s standards, a more contemporary sound. I listened a great deal while we were rehearsing. The ragtime that I played in the Beatles number brings back memories of my days in the Wild West musical - film - score business of Hollywood. We used all of the possible from the standpoint of amplification and reamplication. The theme from Sister George relates in many ways directly to the opening of the film, and I think will find that most of the songs relate to what is happening tonight, tomorrow night and maybe a lot longer from now that any of us realize. I hope you enjoy our effort - I know that I did. ~ Skitch Henderson
