If it’s at all possible for the various styles of contemporary popular music to combine in one voice, the voice belongs to Peggy March. A young lady with a seasoned delivery, she can handle any song, be it a current discotheque favorite or on old standard. She’s got that rural tear in her throat when she goes country and she’s got that sophisticated swing when she's belting a la nightclub. She can coo a soft, slow ballad, and she can rock a battleship in the up-tempos. This album gives her plenty of room to prove the point.
Peggy’s been around, but she never stops. In this country, while in her mid-teens, she topped the charts with her I Will Follow Him. Overseas, where she has toured extensively, her Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye was the number one bestseller in Germany. A Pennsylvanian, Peggy has an infallible ear that has enabled her, thus far, to sing and record in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese and English.
The No Foolin’ album is strictly all-American. Foolin’ Around and Have a Good Time illustrate how Peggy can start soft, go easy with a slight Memphis twang, and then build to the sky. What the World Needs Now Is Love, as performed here, is “with it” this moment, musically and morally. While We're Young and Falling in Love with Love are reminiscent of another Peggy (Lee) approach, complete with bongos, shifting tempos and swinging ensembles, but Peggy March has some tricks of her own.
