This is a brilliant rerelease with the complete concert across two discs and the original album on a third. This is a wise choice, you can dress up and elaborate on a success too much. That is not to say that any of the additional tracks fall below standard, rather that those love the original will want to hear the original album running order and timings.
Errol Garner was and exceptional pianist, composer and band leader and it is wrong to think of him as, somehow, a lesser jazz artist simply because of his accessible sound. That sound seems rather straightforward and simple on superficial listening but is much more complex on closer inspection. This album has long been considered a classic, it is strange then that it should have been treated rather offhandedly with regards to the cover. I am not even sure if I am correct in assuming that the first image is the “real” Concert by the Sea cover. Most of these work okay, so long as it is a bit of Carmel looking coastline the girl in shot is not obligatory.
