Reinhold Westerheide - Steinzeitgeflüster (2021)

“Steinzeitgeflüster” is a composition by the composer Reinhold Westerheide, commissioned in 2013 for the Berlin Museum. The instruments used in “Stone Age Whispers” are seashells, stones, African harps, various drums, crotales, temple gongs and various recorders.

These instruments are among the oldest musical instruments known to man. There is something archaic and original about them. You convert direct contact into sound, play with breath and with your sounds stand for sensual joy, dance, mourning and cult. These sounds touch us today, arouse longing ...

The archaic sound of the instruments is the common thread in the concert program of the same name, “Stone Age Whispers”. The program combines contemporary music by Reinhold Westerheide and Racheal Cogan from Australia with medieval music from the 14th century. An exciting musical field of tension opens up between old and new, composition and improvisation, or dance and mourning.
