"How Can I Unlove You" is an excellent Joe South song that Lynn Anderson made into a smash hit, and the album of the same name has several other high points as well. Her version of Freddie Hart's "Easy Loving" is one of the sweetest ever made of that widely recorded song, and "All Day Sucker" is a welcome return to her mother, Liz Anderson, for material (the song was a minor hit for Liz in 1970). Producer Glenn Sutton contributes his usual handful of originals, including "What's Made Milwaukee Famous," a previous hit for Jerry Lee Lewis. Anderson's renditions of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" and "You've Got a Friend" are decent but forgettable cuts aimed at her pop listeners; Sutton must have gotten a little sloppy on "You've Got a Friend," because studio chatter can be heard briefly in the middle of the song under Anderson's vocal. A few of the album cuts make How Can I Unlove You worthwhile, but the title track is the essential item and one of Anderson's very best.
